10-21-95 Grand Opening Coin – Royal Hawaiian Mint
Arrived in my mail today.
Mintage 238.
10 mm in diameter.
I suspect that the 1995 Kuapapa Mo’i Gold IKI and this coin share the same obverse die. Both are 10mm in diameter and the design images are similar).
The COA (as seen in the images) and RHM database differs in the number struck (1,000 vs 238). I side with the 238 mintage number.
1995 Kuapapa Mo’i 1/20 Proof Gold NGC PF 69
Today’s acquisition for my collection was a Hawaiian gold proof specimen.
Mintage 200 (only available from 5 gold coin proof set).
My specimen is from a broken-up/dispersed set.
This is a X# MB102 (the catalog obverse description is in error http://www.ngccoin.com/poplookup/world-coin-prices.aspx?category=140071&worldcoinid=343845 )
If you compare the 1/10 oz and 1/20 oz, you will see the inner circle design of the 1/10 oz matches the 1/20.

Maui Coin Club – 2M-316 (Silver & Copper) and 2M-317 (Cupro-nickel)
I was inventorying my Maui Coin Club “working samples” and took a few images with my cell phone. Search my earlier blogs with the term “Maui Coin Club” for the story of the acquisition.
Issued mintage for the 2M-316 is 100 (as a pair).
Issued mintage for the 2M-317 is 26.
My 2M-316 and 2M-317 “working samples” are unique as there were never issued and has been stored in the archive of original minter until I purchased them . I requested/received a letter of provenance to verify its non-issue status (from the original minter/seller) and transfer to me.

Soon to be Released: The Hawaiiana Numismatist’s Catalog of Franklin Mint Issues Relating to Hawaii
I’m performing a few finishing touches on another soon to be released book. I am planing to release this book within a week.
Excerpt:
The Franklin Mint issues have been previously integrated into Hawaiiana numismatics. There are a total of 36 medals and 12 ingots cataloged in the book Hawaiian Money Standard Catalog “Second Edition”, 1991, by Medcalf & Russell (MR91).
In performing the research for this book, I uncovered a total of 73 Franklin Mint medals relating to Hawaii. These additional 37 medals are not generally known by the Hawaiian specialist and are often overlooked and not collected. I’ve also uncovered a total of 25 Franklin Mint ingots. These additional 13 ingots are also not generally known by the Hawaiian specialist and are also overlooked and not collected.
This book fills the knowledge gap about the previously undocumented Franklin Mint issues relating to Hawaii and catalogs the 73 Franklin Mint medals and 25 Franklin Mint ingots . This book also provides additional information that is helpful to the Hawaiiana numismatist, such as images, mintages, cross reference to MR91, and identification of the source set of the medal or ingot of interest.
Oh really? 1991 Kalakaua Silver Akahi Dala *** Mintage only 450 ***
An eBay seller (with headline 1991 Kalakaua Silver Akahi Dala *** Mintage only 450 *** ) used the Royal Hawaiian Mint’s online database. Seller claims mintage of 450. If you read how many are in the 1991 Hawaiian Regency Set, the total now becomes 1,350.
The key point of this blog is to not just look at a single line from the database. One must look for sets and include those totals. In some cases, the database does correctly indicate sets included. So watch out…
Mintages aside, this is the first Kalakaua coin to have the added initials “wb” under Kalakaua’s bust. I have examined a specimen from the 1991 Hawaiian Regency set and can confirm the “wb” initials are also on these coins. Also, just above the “wb” are the new RHM hallmark initials on the King’s bust.
Here is a link to my earlier blog describing this find.
