Provisional Government of Hawaii Transfer Medal
Interesting item recently sold on eBay. Postmark indicates it’s a 1973 issue. This medal was previously identified by me, but I never knew it was part of a postal cover.
Previous Interest – Territorial Gold
I once owned two gold slugs. This is an 1851 $50 Lettered Edge (LE) Humbert 880. It’s longer in my collection.
Not Really A Hawaiian Item…But I had to Share
I created this a few days a go. After clicking the center start button, click the YouTube logo (bottom right), and display the video full screen.
Turn up your volume, enjoy the music, and watch ….
Earliest Bi-Metal Hawaii Related Coin?
The 1989 date beats the bi-metal issues from the Royal Hawaiian Mint by 6 years.
The 2nd only medal of this type I’ve seen. Search the keyword: Hawaii. It will be the third hit.

Hawaii 100 Duke Kahanamoku Corporation Dollars
Interesting listing from Banknotes.com http://www.banknotes.com/hi4dkc.htm
This listing has a Hawaii NORFED certificate.
The listing is missing many others from Hawaiian Money: Standard Catalog “Second Edition”. http://www.banknotes.com/hi.htm
Recent Acquisition 2MN-680
I finally obtained a bronze version of 2MN-680 that pairs with my silver version. Seems that I have a Duke Kahanamoku theme exhibit in the works from fraternal medal, HSNA medals, so-called dollar, Franklin Mint issues, and Duke’s Corp dollar (discusses in next blog entry).
Hawaiian Items and NGC Census
One of the problems with Hawaiian numismatics is its outdated reference books and/or the lack of a reference books for newer or previously unlisted items. This is a major hindrance. Is any one of the coin clubs in Hawaii undertaking this effort or advocating the need for this effort?
It’s like using a 1991 Kelley Blue Book (vehicle valuation guidebook) to obtain a value estimate for a 2016 Mazda Miata…
It’s like having a 1991 road map in the year 2016 ….
It’s like picking a 2016 stock with only information from 1991 …
It’s like being stuck with a 1991 wardrobe in the year 2016 …
Enough with my rant.
NGC census has provided a few items of note based on items that were encapsulated/graded:
Royal Hawaiian Mint (ugh…only a partial listing)

Medallic Art Medals

As an update, I’m still pushing forward with my Princess Kaiulani book relating to the Royal Hawaiian Mint issues. All known issues are cataloged and I’m working on the individual pictures.
